Be Worksafe In The Silly Season
A SPATE of work-related deaths in Hume has sparked a warning from WorkSafe urging employees to avoid distraction and remain vigilant at work in the lead-up to Christmas.
The warning follows the fatal injury to two men within a week in separate workplace incidents.
On November, 25 a man was killed in a warehouse in Westmeadows after he was pinned to the wall by a truck.
Another man was killed in Campbellfield on December 1 at a boat manufacturing business when a 150-kilogram piece of machinery fell on him from an overhead crane.
WorkSafe spokesman Michael Birt said both men were experienced workers and aware of safety procedures.
“There can be an element of complacency that creeps in and short cuts can be taken. We need employers and managers to understand they have the legal responsibility for safety in the workplace.”
