Supervision Critical To Construction Site Safety

Construction-SafetyWorkSafe has reported that poor supervision is to blame for too many injuries occurring on construction sites.

The director of WorkSafe’s Construction and Utilities Program Chris Webb said “Whether you’re a principal contractor, site supervisor, contractor or tradesperson, everyone has a role to play in site safety.

“All parties must understand their safety responsibilities and those of others involved in a construction project,” Mr Webb said.

WorkSafe has emphasised that for supervisors, maintaining site safety is non-negotiable and that workers in all position must be able to speak up about any issues before anything bad happens.

This news follows WorkSafe’s release of their new Supervision on Construction Sites educational poster which outlines the safety responsibilities of the key players on construction sites.

WorkSafe’s Back to Basics campaign also means that the spotlight is now on site supervision as WorkSafe inspectors begin to visit construction sites.
