Assessor Guilty Of Failing To Conduct Proper Licence Testing

worksafe_signsA former licence tester from La Trobe Valley has been found guilty and fined $3,500 with $2,000 costs in the Magistrates Court for failing to conduct licence assessments in accordance with the assessment instruments.

A WorkSafe audit undertaken last year found that the accused, who had been working as an authorised assessor since 1998, had incorrectly issued a number of licences in 2008 for scaffolding, rigging and boom type elevating work platform.

It was alleged that the accused did not conduct any practical assessment of the applicant’s skills and gave the applicants the answers and instructed them to complete the written assessment by copying the answers.

WorkSafe Victoria Acting Executive Director Stan Krpan said that improper licence testing can have a serious effect on workplace safety.

“Every worker has the right to know that their workmate has done the right training and passed a test that reflects their skills.”

Information about licensing and registrations can be found on the WorkSafe website.
